The Emporia Police Department as well as the Virginia State Police can often be spotted in various speed traps within the City of Emporia near the North Carolina border. In Virginia, exceeding 80 mph is considered a misdemeanor. Therefore, driving 11 mph over the posted speed limit (70 mph) on this stretch of I-95 can warrant a misdemeanor reckless driving charge.
